Step six - Thanks Maxus -

Yesterday was, without any doubt, one of the longest days since I moved to England. 

I woke up early in the morning and took a bus to London. Although I was truly nervous, I was also tired, so I slept for most of the trip. 

Once in London, I walked trough Oxford Street towards Maxus’s offices. I spent almost one hour having a coffee and reading the newspaper (Spain went on a general strike yesterday), chatting to friends and trying to be as relaxed as I could. 

The interview started at 3 but I got there 10 minutes earlier. I was waiting for a while and Patrick Lindon came to meet me and we had a nice chat. After that, Steve Keenan met me and carried out the interview. 

I am not going to talk about the interview since Maxus might not be comfortable with that [and other candidates might take advantage if I write the questions here :P ]. 

So, the only thing that I want to say about the interview is THANK YOU. I would like to thank Maxus, and thank Steve and Patrick for the way they treated me - thanks to them I wasn't nervous, I felt completely comfortable and I had a very good time. 

After that, the four hours it took to get back home didn't matter at all.

Step Five -Are you ready-

To be honest, I never know how to do a good interview. 

In less than 7 hours, I will be travelling to London, I will spend almost four hours in a bus, thinking about the way to do a good interview, and becoming absolutely nervous, excited. 

Tomorrow night, we will have the answer. Now, it is bed time. 

Step four -Yes, I´ll do an interview-

I am quite happy now, yesterday, around noon, I got an email from Maxus. They have no vacancies currently, however, they would be happy to receive me and have a chat. Great. 

Spite of they don´t have any positions available for me, I am happy because this email means that all the work done has worked well, and step by step, little by little, I am achieving my goals. 

Yesterday, this blog, had loads of visits, most of them, from London. Hopefully, I will be working soon, hopefully, at Maxus London.

Step three -waiting on sunshine-

I am still waiting a ring from Maxus, cause nobody has contacted me yet. Anyway I said I was going to carry on with more actions and that is what I am doing. 

Yesterday, We started a campaign on Facebooks Ads which worked really well in the first day, I will analyce the results propperly after a few days, and all of you will be able to check in this blog; 

And also I set up a new Twitter account: @IwantajobMaxus, where I will be able to communicate with @MaxusLondon and show the following steps.

By the way, today the sun is shining in Stone, likely, the last sunshine of this summer. 

Step two -carrying out more actions-

The only fault I can find in the Facebook action, is that the most visit we are getting for this blog come from Spain, spite of this, the FB action is being an absolutely success. 

We measured the first results at the beginning of the campaign, nevertheless, the action has continued growing up and now we have more comments, more members in the group and more "likers". 

Besides, at least two blog (from Spain, that´s true) have talked about this initiative and have put value in the great idea which means looking for a job by using Social Media.

"Looking for a job in Social Media, an example" Focusmedia (media planning agency) says in its website. 

"Two brilliant ways to look for a job" they say in Sapristi (creative studio)

On balance, the idea is working well, but We don´t have achieved any goal yet, because Maxus hasn´t contacted  me, but we will continue working to get this job. So, what is next?  We are working on a new strike in the campaign, more actions on FB and new actions on Twitter. 

Because I really want that job at Maxus. 

  

Step One -at the same time...-

Nobody from Maxus has rung me (hopefully yet), and some people have asked me whether apart from the action on Facebook, I have sent my CV and a cover letter in a traditional way. 

The answer is: yes, I sent an e-mail with my CV at the same time I launched the action on Facebook. 

I paste here a copy of the letter I sent to Maxus:

Dear friends,

First of all, let me introduce myself: I am Pedro Muñoz, a media planner from Spain. I worked at Maxus Spain for a year and a half and I would like to continue working at Maxus, but now in London.

I came to England to improve my English and I have been working in a restaurant and at Staffordshire LINK, where I have been able to meet this objective, so now I feel confident enough to do an interview.

I do not know what you mean by “what it takes to make a difference”, but I have thought of a few reasons why it would be a good idea to hire me.

- Because I am always smiling

- Because I love media planning

- Because I am very easy-going and open-minded.

- Because I can cook fantastic Spanish omelettes

- Because I can’t juggle a diabolo, but I can learn.

- Because I can learn a lot of other things.

- Because I played “Imagine working at Maxus” and I loved it.

- Because my picture would look nice with the rest of the team.

- Because I have experience with “El Mundo”, so I could work for “The Financial Times”

- Because I have experience with other clients such as Unicaja, GolTV and Sacyr.

- Because I can play football with my workmates every week.

- And, above all, because I would love to work at Maxus.

I guess there are many more reasons about why or why not hire me which we can always discuss in an interview, I would be delighted to arrange one. 

I will continue waiting. 

Step One -measuring results-

The first thing I have to do is to say thank you to everyone who is contributing to this action, without them, it woudln´t have been possible to carry this action on. 

The action, still in progress, is being a success, because Maxus´wall had in a few hours more comments than in the  last six month, and the number of members increased until almost one hundred from one day to another. 

Besides, My link had a considerable number of comments, and likers, and this blog had, in only one day, almost 200 hundred visit.
